Two Music Cultures @HKAF
Roberto Fonseca raised the roof at the HKAF in 2014; his fabulous swing and blues band concert was a swift sell-out, greeted with standing ovations. Now Fonseca returns to the HKAF, this time partnering Malian singer-songwriter, Fatoumata Diawara. Malian melodies blend with intoxicating Afro-Caribbean grooves, stomping jazz-funk riffs, full-tilt keyboard solos and the coolest, honeyed vocals. Their music promises to take the excitement to a different plane.
Cuban-born Roberto Fonseca is one of the heroes of new Cuban music. His 2013 Yo was Grammy-nominated for Best Latin Jazz Album and he has played with such stars as Omara Portuondo and Ibrahim Ferrer. Fatoumata Diawara, Mali’s music sensation, fast emerges as a giant of the world music scene. She has worked with Damon Albarn and Herbie Hancock; her recordings for World Circuit include a hit album featuring Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones. Two music cultures, one sensational concert that will have you on your feet. Learn more here.
