Mala, the electronic artist internationally recognized for being at the forefront of the dubstep movement, traveled to Havana with DJ Gilles Peterson while creating Havana Cultura: The Search Continues at Abdala Studios. Mala set up shop in a tiny booth at the studio and the constant coming and going of local musicians who passed his way like singer and composer Danay Suarez, percussionist Changuito and acclaimed pianist Roberto Fonseca, all leant a hand in the making of ‘Mala in Cuba’ (Brownswood Recordings, 2012), a round trip of sounds embodied in an album documentary.
